I’m a surface pattern designer and use my work on fabric to make lamps, cushions, wallpaper and to upholster furniture. I also work on bespoke commissions and collaborations with interior/fashion designers and private clients to individually design patterns and fabrics for their own schemes and individual projects.
All my original designs are created in my studio at The Chocolate Factory in East London. I love the creative energy of working right in the heart of the city but I draw my inspiration from the natural world, whether from leaves and plants or geological rocks and crystals. I draw, print and dye to create my artwork by hand and then my designs are either digitally or screen-printed onto the fabric. All my products are hand-made and printed in the UK.
I started designing fabric aged 19, selling hand-painted scarves to boutiques in New York’s SoHo district but then embarked on a career as an award-winning documentary film-maker, travelling around the world making programmes on everything from body snatchers to the world’s tallest trees before returning to art school and my first love of fabric design. In film-directing I used light and colour to create moving pictures, now I try to bring that visual layering to my textile work.
I enjoy working with individuals or companies on specially created designs which can be used on fabric or other products of your choice or you can license my design to produce your own products.
If you would like to talk about a specific design for a shop or business or you would like to commission a bespoke fabric for a present based on someone’s personal collection or interests please contact me for more information.
